Can I install my new system myself? |
Air conditioning and heating equipment takes experience and the proper tools to ensure safe and proper functioning. The final start-up on all cooling systems will require an EPA certification to properly handle the refrigerant. However, we offer a variety of tools and complete installations instructions for those of you who want to save money and tackle whatever portion of the job you feel comfortable with. Many of our customers will remove the existing equipment and place the new equipment in position. Duct connections can be completed and sealed. Equipment platforms can be pre-made and located as needed. Electrical connections can be made by those qualified. The final startup will normally require about 2 hours to complete by a certified contractor Be certain to obtain any necessary inspections required by your local code. Furnaces should be inspected by a qualified contractor prior to final startup. |

Do you provide installers for my purchase? |
Not yet. We are compiling a database of certified installers for future use. If your installer is licensed and you are happy with his work, please let us know so we can add his name to our database. |
Do your refrigerant line sets come precharged? |
Most linesets today are sealed at each end to prevent the introduction of moisture. "Precharging" refers to a nitrogen charge not a freon charge, so either way refrigerant is required to fill the total volume of the piping. Nitrogen charges are no longer commonly used in linesets.

Can I get the installation instructions in advance of my order delivery? |
Yes. We can fax, mail or email the instructions to you once the order is placed or you can obtain them from the individual product ad under the "Installation Guides/PDF's" link. |
Does my installer need to be certified by the manufacturer of the equipment I select? |
No. Installers are certified in various disciplines related to heating and cooling without regard to brand. It may be helpful for the installer to know the brand but experienced techs pride themselves on knowing how to install all brands. |

How do I size a ductless mini split? |
For cooling only use a factor of 20 Btu's per square foot for a well insulated home, 25 Btu's per square foot for homes of average insulation, and 30-35 btu's per square foot for poorly insulated homes. When considering a ductless heat pump, refer to our system size selector link in the top navigation bar on each page of our site. |

I see the terms "upflow", downflow", and "horizontal" used when describing furnaces and air handlers. What does this mean? |
These three terms refer to the furnace air delivery configuration. Upflow means that the supply (warm) air is delivered upward, off the top of the furnace into an overhead duct system. Downflow means the supply air is delivered from the bottom of the furnace into a duct system beneath it. Horizontal means the furnace will lay on its side for use in an attic or tight basement. |
