Mr. Slim multi-zone systems are available from Mitsubishi Electric to take care of more than one zone from a single system. The MXZ30TN model can supply up to 30,000 BTU/h (or 2-1/2 tons) of cooling and 38,000 Btu/h of heating to three zones. A typical application example may be a three-bedroom ranch style home where two MXZ30TN systems can take care of the entire floor. One system can satisfy the three bedrooms in the back portion of the house while the other system takes care of the kitchen, family room and living room.
The MXZ model employs a single compressor that is sized to handle up to three indoor units. Using a multi system instead of three separate systems can be more efficient and allows you to save outdoor space because only one outdoor unit is needed rather than three.
A 2:1 multi system is also available for where a cooling-only model is needed for two zones. This system employs two compressors, one for each indoor unit. You still save space outdoor because you have one outdoor unit rather than two.
