  • How do the multi-zone systems work?

Mr. Slim multi-zone systems are available from Mitsubishi Electric to take care of more than one zone from a single system. The MXZ-8B48NA model can supply up to 54,000 BTU/h (or 4-1/2 tons) of cooling and 60,000 Btu/h of heating to up to 8 zones. A typical application example may be a three-bedroom ranch style home where one MXZ-8B48NA system can take care of the entire floor. One system can satisfy the three bedrooms in the back portion of the house along with the kitchen, family room and living room.

The MXZ model employs a single compressor that is sized to handle up to eight indoor units. Using a
multi-zone system instead of separate systems can be more efficient and allows you to save outdoor space because only one outdoor unit is needed rather than three or more.

A 2:1 multi system is also available for where cooling and heating is needed for two zones. This system employs two compressors, one for each indoor unit. You still save space outdoor because you have one outdoor unit rather than two.
