  • Why is the Mitisubishi Mr. Slim so popular worldwide?                                                           Back

Split ductless is the accepted form of air conditioning and heating worldwide especially Japan and Europe. There are three major concerns that fuel the popularity of this technology: space, sound and energy.

Space. A ductless system air-conditions a room without building in the bulk of a standard room unit. It can also be designed to cool several rooms, mimicking the sophisticated zone control of modern central air. And you don't have to tear up your walls and ceilings to install it. Space, particularly in Japan is a premium. Real-estate is such a premium that buildings are build tall rather than flat and wide.

Sound. Because buildings in Japan are so close together sound level is a major concern. Split ductless systems operate very quietly. In some cases Mr. Slim’s indoor unit is running at only 26 dB(A). The design of the split ductless system allows for the outdoor unit to be located outside. This unit is where the noise typically takes place, due to the compressor, but with Mr. Slim our outdoor units are quiet enough to be placed underneath a window. This low noise level is accomplished partly because the compressor is isolated from the other parts of the unit and is cushioned very well to guard against vibration.

Energy. The energy demand is great in Japan, Asia and Europe. There is tremendous pressure placed on the available energy resources in these countries. Ductless provides a true zoning solution and it is common practice to air condition only the spaces being occupied rather than an entire house regardless of occupancy. All ductless products sold in the United States meet the efficiency requirement as established by the Federal Government’s Department of Energy. Additionally, because the indoor unit is located in the space there is no "duct-loss" as with central systems. Duct-loss means that energy is lost as air is forced through ductwork. Though there is not currently an agency that measures this loss, it is commonly agreed to be around 20%. Mr. Slim systems range from 10 to 13 S.E.E.R.
