Heat Pump Technology
A heat pump is a central air conditioning and highly efficient heating system that will “extract” heat from the air in the wintertime for cost effective heating comfort in all but the most severe winter climates. The system actually “reverse-cycles” in the heating mode and captures heat from outside and “pumps” it into your home. (More...)

Make An Investment In Savings With Efficient performance
The Goodman GPH13H 13 SEER heat pump package units feature SEER ratings of 13, making it an energy efficient choice for home comfort. Compared with a 15 year old system, you could save up to 38% on your energy bill. Here's a savings example for a 3 ton system:
Annual operating costs for a 15 year old, 8 SEER system--$810.00*
Annual operating costs for a Goodman 13 SEER system---$504.00*
If you live in very warm climate your savings could be even greater.
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.
SEER gives an indication of the energy efficiency of the system. The higher the SEER, the more efficient
the unit. And, the more efficient the unit, the lower your energy costs.
When you purchase a system with a high SEER, you'll use less energy to cool
your house, resulting in lower electric bills. In many cases, these savings
are enough to partially or fully offset the cost of the new equipment within
a few years.

Unlike a furnace it doesn't burn fuel to make heat. It simply uses electricity to move heat from one place to another. In the cooling mode, an air conditioner or heat pump simply capture heat from inside your home and transfer it outside. In heating, a heat pump actually reverse-cycles and captures heat from outside and moves it inside. This process is more efficient than electric heat as it is much less expensive to transfer existing heat than to actually generate it.
There is usable heat in the air down to about 0 degrees Fahrenheit. It feels cold to us because our skin temperature is 98.6 degrees. A heat pump's heating capacity is rated at 47 degrees ambient (outside) temperature. As the outside temperature drops the heat pumps capacity drops in a linear fashion relative to the outdoor temperature.
Most heat pumps will produce about half of their rated capacity at 12 degrees ambient. An electric heating element provides supplemental heat to assist the heat pump as it's capacity declines. The heat pump monitors both the outdoor temperature and inside supply air temperature and energizes the assist as needed, automatically.
Under the terms of all manufacturer's warranty and to comply with federal refrigerant handling laws, it is required that the system be checked, started up and signed-off on by a licensed air conditioning/heating contractor prior to use. Failure to comply with this provision will void all factory warranties. Keep a copy of the installation ticket for your records. Please ensure that all supply and return ductwork is properly sized and that a permit is obtained (where required). Always conform with applicable local and state codes. Electrical connections should only be made by a licensed electrical contractor. Unqualified persons should never attempt installation of this or any HVAC system. COMPONENT
