Ultra-violet Air Disinfection"Ultra-violet air disinfection is a potentially important technique for environmental control of airborne infection." Dr. Richard L. Riley, John Hopkins University Pollutants within your homeMost people spend the majority of their time inside their home. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns that the air inside your home may be at least 5 times more polluted than outside air. The EPA has listed indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental health risks that we face. ![]() Microscopic mold, mildew, bacteria and viruses linger in the air, leading to allergies, asthma, respiratory disease and infection. These unseen biohazards can live and breed within your air conditioning systems' moist environment, encouraging micro-organisms to breed, multiply and grow. And once airborne, unseen particles can pose a serious health threat to you and your family. Common Indoor Pollutants Include:
Even the cleanest home can be a breeding ground for the micro-organisms that may live undetected within your air conditioning system. It's The Ultraviolet Light System That Makes The DifferenceHere's How It Works
Micro organisms that travel through your indoor air can get trapped in the moist environment of your air conditioning system. Bacteria can then breed and spread throughout the system and your home. The Fresh-Aire UV Light System with dual bulbs attacks and sterilizes these bacteria in your air conditioning system, where they live and breed. The Fresh-Aire UV System purifies the air, improving the quality of your indoor living space. Germicidal ultraviolet light produced by the Fresh-Aire UV light system penetrates the cellular walls of micro-organisms present in your air conditioning system, causing cellular damage and either killing the cells or preventing them from reproducing. Twice The Exposure - Twice The Results![]() Standard Dual UV includes two bulbs hard mounted to a single ballast. The Fresh-Aire UV Dual Bulb Air Handler Mount System provides you with the option of mounting your bulbs in an optimal way to maximize your results. With the ability to mount your bulbs in separate areas of your system you can enhance both desired results of UV disinfection. First by positioning one light above your coil you not only sterilize the coil surface but also the inner surfaces of the rest on the unit. Mounting the second bulb below the coil or in the return air box works additionally to provide hard surface disinfection in this area. Typically, this will mean that one light set is located on the return air (incoming) side of your indoor furnace blower with the second set located on the supply air (outgoing) side. This doubles the exposure time that micro-organisms experience as they pass through the blower system. Twice the exposure translate to twice the effectiveness and twice the quantity of fresh clean air for your family to breath.
Installation is Fast And EasyThe Fresh-Aire UV™Air Handler (AHU) Mount Kit is designed for internal or external mounting of the UV power supply to accommodate tight installations. The power supply is completely sealed for mounting in wet locations. In addition, the UV lamp cables incorporate a waterproof connector design with a 6’ lead to allow safe routing of cables within the air handler. The power lead is a water-resistant cord with a 110V plug, the multi-volt ballast allows you to cut off the plug and direct wire to your systems 220V power supply if more convenient. UV lights are most effective when installed inside and shining on the air conditioning coil section of your existing furnace or electric air handler. When installing your Fresh-Aire UV lights in a new air conditioning system we we normally recommend that you install one bulb above and one bulb below the A /C coil. Mounting the below bulb in the return so it’s light shines on the bottom of the coil and the inside of the return duct surfaces is considered optimal. If space within the furnace/air handler does not permit, then one light set can be installed directly above the furnace or air handler in the ductwork. Installation, in most cases, will take under one hour. For best results, it is recommended that it be installed by a qualified air conditioning professional. If you are handy around electricity the simple instructions are easy to follow. UV Light Can Extend The life Of Your Air Conditioning SystemIn addition to the undisputed effectiveness of UV light sterilization with regard to your health, field and laboratory tests highlight its ability to clean indoor cooling coils that have been caked with mold and mildew. While you're probably familiar with the tedious task of changing air conditioning filters, they do little to prevent build up on the cooling coil.
Leaving a coil untreated, with the type of build-up pictured above is often referred to as "dirty rag" syndrome.... imagine a moist, moldy rag placed over the air conditioning vent continuously introducing its contaminants into the airstream.... the dirty coil has the same effect. The savings resulting from the improved efficiency and airflow across the coil can help the Fresh-Aire Blue Tube UV light pay for itself through reduced operating costs (utility bills) and maintenance.
