866 862 8922If you have a gas heating and central air conditioner, the outdoor unit can normally be replaced without changing the indoor section. You will need the existing outdoor unit capacity (tonnage) to determine the proper replacement.
All manufacturers recommend a matched indoor coil as well for proper efficiency but, in reality, people replace existing outdoor units and normally don't experience problems. The system may not function to full capacity and efficiency but if this is all your budget allows then it is an option.
If you have a heat pump split system, replacing just the outdoor may cause a refrigerant imbalance in the heating mode. No one can tell you in advance whether any particular replacement unit will work (unless it is an identical replacement). The odds are in your favor that it will work but if there is a problem, be prepared to replace the indoor unit.
As a general rule, if your system is over 10 years old and you experience a major failure a new high efficiency system may be less expensive in the long run.
