What the driver does and does not do
HVAC orders ship by freight carrier because furnaces, condensers, and air handlers are heavy and palletized. The driver brings the shipment to your location, but the driver travels alone and is not responsible for carrying the equipment into your home or garage. For that reason, the unloading is a shared effort between you and the driver at the point of delivery.
We suggest that you have two people present, in addition to the driver, to assist with unloading. With two helpers and the driver working together, the equipment comes off the truck safely and without strain. This is standard for curbside freight delivery of large appliances and HVAC systems.
How to prepare for delivery day
A little planning makes delivery smooth. Confirm your delivery window with the carrier, clear a path from the curb, and have your helpers ready before the truck arrives. Drivers work on a schedule, so the unloading should be quick once everyone is in place.
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| Before delivery | Arrange two helpers and clear a path to your storage or work area. |
| At delivery | Help the driver move each item off the truck to the curb or driveway. |
| After unloading | Inspect for visible shipping damage before the driver leaves. |
Inspect before you sign
Once the equipment is off the truck, look over the packaging and the units for any signs of shipping damage. Note any concerns on the delivery paperwork before the driver leaves. A quick inspection at delivery protects you if a freight claim is ever needed.
